Guinea Fowl are a wonderful addition to a homestead. Unlike chickens, they don't scratch up garden plants- they pick beetles off of leaves, eliminating pests while causing minimal damage. They also don't need very much feed once they're fully grown, because they forage so effectively, and their eggs are delicious as well - females lay almost daily from May through September. Best of all, they devour ticks. Since adding Guineas to our mix over five years ago, we almost never find ticks, and neither do our neighbors... Which brings up an important issue: Guineas need space, and tend to roam considerable distances during the day. They are also fully flighted, which makes them difficult to keep in a fence (and difficult for a predator to catch). They can be quite loud, although when viewed as a "guard animal" they're providing a valuable service in that regard, too: If something doesn't seem right, they're going to let you know about it. We strongly recommend discussing Guineas with your neighbors before getting them, but we also believe that these intelligent, beautiful birds are a great benefit to any homestead.
We offer Guinea stories, anecdotes, praises and advice year-round, and we also offer keets for sale from June through August, with a minimum purchase of 5 birds. During that season, we also have Guinea hatching eggs for sale, and we provide custom hatching - with an order of 15 birds, we will set up a hatch just for you, and 28 days later you can bring home your own flock of little Guineas! If you're looking to start your own flock of Guinea Fowl, check out our Guinea FAQs page to get to know more about the care of these unique birds. Please contact us for pricing and availability.
